I'm charging through Michel Foucault's History of Sexuality Vol. 1 (in the sexy new Penguin Classics series), and loving the PoMo perspectival shift he takes in lines like: "The question I'd like to pose is not, Why are we repressed? but rather, Why do we say, with so much passion and so much resentment against our recent past, against our present, and against ourselves, that we are repressed? By what spiral did we come to affirm that sex is negated? What led us to show, ostentatiously, that sex is something we hide, to say it is something we silence?"Anyhow, doing a bit of biographical archaeology of my own, I came across this sublime quote about his long-term relationship with philosopher/activist Daniel Defert, and I wanted to record it on this blog as a totem to the joys of conscious relationship: "I have lived for 18 years in a state of passion toward someone. At some moments, this passion has taken the form of love. But in truth, it is a matter of a state of passion between the two of us."
